Kick-off meeting I-CRECT project in Thai Binh
On 10th August 2022 in Thai Binh, the Center for Public Health and Ecosystem Research, Hanoi University of Public Health has organized a kick-off meeting of the project “Intervention to decrease Carbapenem resistant enterobacteriaceae (CRE) colonization and transmission between hospitals, households, communities and domesticated animals” (I-CRECT).
Many medical doctors and researchers from Vietnamese and international hospitals, universities and research institutes such as CENPHER; National Children Hospital; Thai Binh Pediatric Hospital; National Institute of Veterinary Research; Thai Binh Department of Health (DoH); Thai Binh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD); Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Center for Disease Control of Thai Binh; Sub-department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Karolinska Institute (Sweden), University of Gothenburg (Sweden), CIRAD (France) has joined the meeting.

Representatives of the DoH, DARD of Thai Binh and Thai Binh Pediatric Hospital much appreciated the I-CRECT project in contribution to the protection of human health through One Health initiatives which involved both national and international organizations. They strongly believe that the success of the project will significantly contribute to reduction of antibiotic resistance.
On behalf of the I-CRECT team, Dr. Mattias Larsson – Karolinska Institute, presented an overview of the I-CRECT project. Dr. Mattias has emphasized the danger of CRE transmission and do hopes that the collaboration of project partners will help reduce the transmission of CRE from discharged patients to household members, community, domestic animals and environment.

Dr. Phan Huu Phuc (National Children Hospital), Dr. Bent Jörgensen (University of Gothenburg, Sweden) and Dr. Dang Thi Thanh Son (National Institute of Veterinary Research) has presented the activities plan for work package of hospital, community, and veterinary, respectively. During the discussion section, many different aspects regarding the methods of conducting research activities, limitations and challenges were raised and troubleshot by the I-CRECT team, together with local partners and authorities from Thai Binh.

On behalf of the Hanoi University of Public Health, the organization in charge of implementing the project, Dr. Pham Duc Phuc - Deputy Director of CENPHER, acknowledged all participants and affirmed that the One Health collaboration between medical doctors, medical and veterinary researchers, and local authorities in the I-CRECT project will bring many achievements on reduction of antibiotic resistance and improving public health in Thai Binh province as well as many others in Vietnam.
