Recruitment: Research assistant in Food Safety at Hanoi University of Public Health

1.Position: Project research assistant

2.Duration: Full time, from 24 to 36 months, starting from 1 July 2018

3.Institution and Project

The Hanoi University of Public Health (HUPH, www.huph.edu.vn) was formally established in 2001 as the sole university in Vietnam for developing modern public health as an agent of change for protecting human health through training and research. During the past decade, HUPH has made remarkable progress in offering degree programs in public health (BSc, MSc, and PhD) and hospital management (MSc), as well as in translating research findings to inform policy. The Center for Public Health and Ecosystem Research (CENPHER, http://cenpher.huph.edu.vn) is a research center at HUPH. The mission of CENPHER is to study the health and well-being impacts of environmental, ecological, cultural, socio-economic, and demographic factors using the integrative approaches of Ecohealth/One Health with special focus on South East Asia, with links to common issues in Africa. We focus on the links between health and agriculture, infectious and zoonotic diseases, chemical pollution, and food safety and nutrition, from the lab to the field.

The research project “Market-based approaches to improving the safety of pork in Vietnam” (SafePORK) aims to reduce the burden of food-borne disease in informal, emerging and niche markets. SafePORK will develop and evaluate light-touch market-based approaches to improving food safety, while safeguarding livelihoods in the pork sector. This project is coordinated by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in collaboration with HUPH, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, and National Institute of Animal Science and private sectors. The team uses an inter-disciplinary approach and brings together expertise in smallholder pig systems, risk analysis, socio-economics, value chain assessment, veterinary epidemiology and public health. SafePORK is funded by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

 

4.Job Description

The successful candidate will help the project team to do works related to:

  • Co-organize the field trips and collect samples, information in accordance with the pork value chain in the study areas (Hung Yen, Nghe An, Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh provinces).
  • Synthesis and analyse data from food safety laboratories related to the project.
  • Summary of records related to field, workshop, meetings…
  • Implement administrative tasks, such as make dispatches, invitation, contract, financial documents…

 

5.Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor or master degree in public health, biology, veterinary medicine or veterinary public health, or food sciences. 
  • Have at lease 2 years experience on related fields
  • Have the skills and experiences in performing field study in food safety (e.g., food/environment sampling, analysis of Salmonella, total bacteria count, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with stakeholder, local people in the field area
  • Ability to use analysis software (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS)
  • Good English and experience in qualitative research is an advantage
  • Proactive, flexible and responsible, take high commitment, complete the assigned work on time, and commitment to go to the field trip
  • Only Vietnamese candidates are eligible

 

6.Work Place and  Compensation

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Holiday: as Vietnam Labour Law
  • Work at CENPHER, HUPH, 1A Duc Thang road, Duc Thang ward, North Tu Liem, Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Assistance: stationery and computer
  • Be participated the training related to the project, and regular working with international team.
