  • Recruitment: PhD in Food Safety Intervention Research

    The PhD candidate will take part in project activities with a main focus on the following objectives: i) to generate actionable evidence on the efficacy, feasibility and reach of current approaches for improving pork safety in Vietnam; ii) to develop, pilot and test light-touch, incentive-based approaches to food safety, in close partnership with the private sector; iii) to build capacity in understanding food safety risk, its management and effective communication among stakeholders including key government partners, the private sector, academia, donors.

  • Research for safer pork products in Vietnam

    A two-day workshop, 7–8 September 2017, on the topic ‘Improving food safety along the pork value chain—lessons learned and ways forward’, kicked off at the Hanoi Hotel on Thursday morning with an opening address by HE Mr.Chu Van Chuong, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department of Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In his speech, Mr. Chuong said, ‘We look forward to even further improvements through projects such as those being reviewed today.

    Food safety is currently one of the top public concerns in Vietnam. Food contamination incidents and an increase in food-borne illnesses have reduced consumer confidence in food quality and increased mistrust among value chain actors. , which significantly affects the production and consumption activities of small-scale farmers.

    Two new research reports published in February 2017 show that pork in some provinces in Vietnam often carries microorganisms that can cause disease to consumers. The health burden posed by biological hazards is much greater than that posed by chemical hazards. Reports also show that it is possible to ensure a safe source of pork for consumption.

    A report launched this week on managing risks to food safety in Vietnam was prepared by the World Bank and other research and development partners at the request of the Government of Vietnam. Our research team at the CENPHER/HUPH is a part of the technical partner group contributing for this report. 


  • FREE GRAIZING DUCK AND AVIAN INFLUENZA IN VIETNAM

    Since 2013, H5N1 bird flu has been circulating in South East Asia resulting in high mortality rate in the bird species in the area. In Vietnam, it still affect the poultry such as ducks and chicken, threatening local economy, public health, farmers' livelihood and food security.  Free grazing ducks in the South of Vietnam has been one of the sources of H5N1 bird flu.
