Position and title of post:         Communication and Public Relation Specialist

Duration:                                 24 months, part-time

 

Background

 

The Field Building Leadership Initiative (FBLI): Advancing Ecohealth in South East Asia is a five year program (2012-2017), funded by the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada which focuses on solving human health problems associated with agricultural intensification and other challenges.

 

The program has four objectives: (i) to conduct ecohealth research to address human health problems related to agricultural intensification; (ii) to strengthen the capacity for ecohealth research and practice by ecohealth training to build leadership and expertise in the ecohealth field; (iii) to engage key policy makers at local and national levels to interact with the research teams,  and communities; and (iv) to facilitate networking-of-networks and knowledge sharing to mainstream ecohealth approaches in the region. The FBLI has three interlinked components: i) Research, ii) Capacity building, and iii) Knowledge translation (KT). Main objectives of the KT are to promote dialogue between the research and policy communities, and to build researchers’ capacity regarding to translating the research evidences to inform and influence policy decisions.

 

The program is implemented by a Regional Core Group which comprises representatives from a consortium of seven partner institutions in four countries (China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam).The Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA) is currently housing the Coordinating Unit of the program. The Unit acts as the administrative hub for the regional FBLI program.

 

We seek to recruit a Communication and Public Relation Specialist to work for the KT component from now to the end of 2017.

 

Responsibility

The FBLI Communication and Public relation specialist is responsible for carrying out and facilitating external communications to disseminate the FBLI stories, results to public, especially policy makers in Agriculture and Public Health sectors. The main tasks include:

 

  • Leading the development of FBLI communication strategy to disseminate FBLI activities, results and outcomes to public, especially policy makers in Agriculture and Public Health sectors;
  • Supporting the FBLI country teams to develop communication plans and implement them in their countries;
  • Coordinating with other staff to collect  inputs for communication materials (articles, stories, reports, newsletters and other publications);
  • Advising and supporting member institutions regarding communication aspects  i.e., preparing, designing and producing the FBLI related communication materials (policy briefs, press releases, short films, radio/TV program);
  • Cultivating the connection between the program and potential journalists and media organizations for the purpose of disseminating the FBLI communication packages through organizing press briefing, press meetings or conference and so on;
  • Supporting the KT coordinator in managing communication materials;
  • Screening, synthesizing and updating information at the FBLI website and other digital platforms.

 

Requirements

The candidate shall meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Master degree, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations or other related fields,
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications and public relations. Experiences in developing and managing  digital platforms such as Facebook or Twitter is desirable,
  • Good communication and facilitation skills including ability to craft messages in various formats (press releases, websites, successful stories, blog entries, tweets, etc.) to various audiences,
  • An excellent master of English skills is a must.

 

Contract and benefits:

Successful candidate will be contracted by the VPHA on the part-time basic.

Successful candidate will report to the FBLI-KT coordinator and the president of VPHA.
