Singing MOU between the Rakuno Gakuen University and the Hanoi School of Public Health

On 5th September 2013, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Huong - Deputy Dean of the HSPH - received Dr. Kohei Makita from the Rakuno Gakuen University (RGU), Japan. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen the collaboration and realize the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in research and training partnership between the two institutions. The MOU aims at (i) mutually providing of academic materials, publications, information, and so on (ii) fostering the exchange of faculty and students (iii) conducting joint research projects (iv) and holding joint academic events, such as seminars and academic conferences.

At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Huong briefed Dr. Makita on the current international cooperation as well as the long-time exchange student programs between the HSPH and other international institutions in Canada, the US, Europe, and the South East Asia. Dr. Makita also gave insights on the RGU strengths in veterinary medicine, food safety and agricultural sector.

In the meantime, the Center for Public Health and Ecosystem Research (CENPHER) at the HSPH, which has its focus on the food safety and risk assessment, has collaborated with Dr. Makita on a PigRisk food safety project and the risk assessment training. Notably, Dr. Makita was the key facilitator of a 2 weeks course on risk assessment for food safety in informal market from 26 August to 6 September 2013 in Hanoi. This course is the result of the collaboration among the HSPH, the RGU and the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). In future, centers and faculties of the two universities look forward to more collaboration in research and training. The MoU affirms the willing to open and the tradition of international development of the HSPH in field of public health.
