Position and title of post:         Ecohealth knowledge translation coordinator

Duration:                                 18 months, fulltime

 

Background

The Field Building Leadership Initiative (FBLI): Advancing Ecohealth in South East Asia is a five year program (2012-2016), funded by the Canadian International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada which focuses on solving human health problems associated with agricultural intensification and other challenges.

The program has four objectives: (i) conduct ecohealth research to address human health problems related to agricultural intensification; (ii) to strengthen the capacity for ecohealth research and practice by ecohealth training to build leadership and expertise in the ecohealth field; (iii) to engage key policy makers – at local and national levels – to interact with the research teams,  and communities; and (iv) to facilitate networking-of-networks and knowledge sharing to mainstream ecohealth approaches in the region.

The FBLI has three interlinked components: i) research, capacity building and knowledge translation component. Main objective of theknowledge translation (KT) is to promote the dialogues between the research and policy communities, and facilitate the translation of research evidence into practices and to inform and influence policy decisions.

The program has been being implemented since 2012 by a consortium of six  partner institutions in four countries (China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam).The Vietnam Public Health Association (VPHA) is currently housing the Coordinating Unit of the program. The Unit acts as the administrative hub for the regional FBLI program.

We seek to recruit an Ecohealth knowledge translation coordinator to work for the KT component from June 2015 to December 2016.

Responsibility

The FBLI-KT Coordinator will manage and facilitate the KT component to achieve its objectives. The job description includes:

(i)Serving  as  the KT component coordinator to coordinate timely implementation of all aspect of the component (manage, oversee and report on progress and performance of the KT component);

(ii)Providing technical supports to research teams and KT country leaders in four countries in developing country KT plan and country budget plan, including inputs for annual implementation plan

(iii)Preparing reporting mechanism and report template as well other tools for regular update of the country activities;

(iv)Supporting the FBLI coordinator in monitoring the component activities, outputs and outcomes through close collaboration with members of the country policy alliance groups and track changes to ensure all component activities are implemented as plan;

(v)Supporting the KT-PR specialist in developing communication tools and material to disseminate the FBLI stories, results to public, especially policy makers in Agriculture and Public Health sectors. Working closely with CU staff to communicate FBLI outputs with outside (website).

Requirements

The candidate shall meet the following minimum requirements:

  • MSc degree, preferably in communications, journalism, public relations or other related fields;
  • Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public relations and project/program coordination;
  • Written and spoken fluency in English is required.

Contract and benefits:

  • Successful candidate will be contracted by the VPHA on the fulltime basis.
  • Successful candidate will report to the FBLI coordinator, officer and the president of VPHA.
