Objective
To explore the potential for scaling of business models that reuse agro-waste in collaboration with existing IFAD’s initiative in the targeted region.
Short Description of the Event
The workshop is a collaboration between IFAD and IWMI to explore the potential for scaling business models that reuse agro-industrial waste. Resource Recovery and Reuse (RRR) research group in IWMI has developed a database of more than 150 reuse business cases and has analyzed more than 50 cases in detail. These empirical business cases have helped the RRR team develop 20+ conceptual business models that are geared to converting domestic and agro-industrial waste into value-added products such as compost, energy and water.
The RRR team has identified IFAD initiatives in the region that can bank on its research work on business model development and explore the potential for scaling of selected reuse business models and in the process address issues like food insecurity and job provision through improved private sector participation in agriculture value chain.
The event will focus on developing a common understanding of the problems from agro-waste and sharing of research knowledge and potential solutions.
Target Audience
IFAD and its partners, Ministry of Food and Agriculture, private sector entities related agro-waste processing (pig/livestock waste), waste reuse businesses, research institutes and relevant stakeholders from the public sector.
