Infectious Diseases, Biodiversity and Health Risk in Southeast Asia

Press Club, 59A Ly Thai To, Hanoi, from 26 November 2012 to 28 November 2012

The workshop was completed successfully  on 28th November with a number of great contributions from all participants and collaborators.

This international workshop is organized by the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), Hanoi; MIVEGEC, UMR CNRS-IRD-Universities Montpellier 1 and 2, centre IRD, Montpellier; CENPHER, Hanoi School of Public Health; UMMISCO UMI IRD-UPMC, Hanoi.

The workshop aims at presenting the scientific results obtained in the framework of the first phase of the International Research Network between France and Vietnam entitled "Biodiversity and Infectious Diseases in Vietnam" (GDRI). This network involves projects on various infectious diseases of major public health and economical issues in Vietnam such as tuberculosis, dengue, rice virus, human influenza and diarrhoea. The workshop is also to build research plan for the next 4-year phase, in which we would like to involve the neighbouring countries of Laos and Cambodia as new research partners.

The workshop includes scientific presentations for the first two days, working groups on the afternoon of the second day and morning of the third day with general discussion. The aim of this network and of this workshop is to gather health professionals and researchers from Vietnam, France, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Thailand, all working on infectious diseases but on different diseases and with different interests (spatial dynamics, resistance evolution, vectors, modelling, etc...), in order to favour between-country and cross-disciplinary interactions that will help building future international and original research projects.
