Onehealth workshop on training and research at the universities in Southern Vietnam

The workshop on training and research at the universities in Southern Vietnam was held in Can Tho city from 24th to 25th October, 2013. The participants are lecturers and researchers from Hue, Tay Nguyen, Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho universities. Notably, staffs from Regional Animal Health Office VI and VII, Sub-Department of Animal Health of 13 provinces in the Cuu Long River Delta, Ho Chi Minh Pasteur institute and Thao Cam Vien Center for training and wildlife preservation, Ho Chi Minh also joined the event.

An overview on One Health and a one-year operational review of VOHUN were delivered at the workshop. It is also worth mentioning that One Health component in the current teaching curriculum of those universities/colleges were presented. Participants also discussed on the strategic development of One Health course and capacity building for One Health practitioners. Results of research on Salmonella, Streptococcus suis, Fasciolosis, and related issues were also shared and discussed among participants. Notably, officers from the Regional Animal Health Office and the Sub-Department of Animal Health shared their experiences on animal health management and the need of collaboration with public health and medicine sectors in the protection of animal and human health. Through this workshop, the integration and construction of Onehealth content at universities in VOHUN were reviewed and strengthened. Also, collaboration in research on Onehealth in the network should receive more attention in the future.
